Zomlings In The Town (Series 3)
Zomlings In The Town is a cheeky collectable pocket money toy line. Featuring a range of ‘Zomlings’ who are somewhere between zombies and monsters, there is a large character universe for kids to collect.
We tested Zomlings as part of an extended research study for the company who makes them, and so we are even more sure than usual that our review is based on solid findings.
The Zomlings figures themselves are all a good collectable pocket toy should be – highly tactile (made from a squishy, bendy, twisty rubber like material), very funny for kids (funny monster characters with extreme features), appealing to most all kids (due to range of characters, there will be different favourites for different kids with so many to choose from) and ongoing play/collectable value (due to in built game play and new series of characters periodically, along with ‘special’ gold and silver characters).
Adults often view this kind of product as cheap & plasticky, but we’ve found considerable play and developmental value with this type of product – children explore different textures in terms of the tactile experience, they have to think to explain why they like one or another character to their friends, and there is usually some element of physical play which develops/tests physical co-ordination. Not that we’re saying these toys are going to help kids excel in school – they aren’t, but they do still have a role to play in the development of kids.
With Zomlings one of the features we like most is the additional feature of stacking houses. One of the in built games (as featured in the TV commercials for Zomlings) has the kids stack up houses, and then flick Zomling figures at the houses trying to knock them down!
In Series 3, the Zomlings have a new way to wreak havoc in the town – they are now more mobile via their very own Zomlings trains! Kids can collect different carraiges for the Zomlings to ride in & can inter change the train wheels from carraige to carriage to increase the fun factor.
WHO’S IT FOR – Zomlings will work for nearly any kids of school age. We’d expect this to be strongest with the age group of 5-8 year olds, but it could extend all the way through primary schooling ages.
THE TOY VERDICT – bearing in mind the comparatively low price point for this type of product, we found considerable play value and a large amount of fun to be had with Zomlings In The Town. Recommended.
