Boy (By Roald Dahl)
BOY (BY ROALD DAHL)
Roald Dahl’s Boy is the story of his childhood told by Dahl himself in that fantastic writing style he is so well loved for. Originally published in 1984, this is a timeless classic, a hilarious reflection of a time long since gone. From his experiences at boarding school and the traumatic corporal punishment he received through to funny stories like how he and his friends decided to get their own back on the loathsome local sweet shop owner – Mrs Pratchett (we won;t spoil it for you, but this is just one of many hilarious sections in the book!).
In an age where the political correctness and health & safety culture of adults controls the once free world of children, Roald Dahl’s Boy offers a tantalising glimpse back to how things used to be, while also sharing much about the early life of probably the best children’s fiction authors of all time. Dahl has sold over 100 million books in total, and it is easy to see why. Boy offers a compelling mixture of that amazing writing style with intriguing autobiographical story.
THE TOY VERDICT: This is as good as children’s non fiction gets. An amazing story told in that familiarly quirky Roald Dahl way. Highly recommended.
