Gelli Baff is the gooey funny bath additive which makes bath time hilarious fun!
For many parents, trying to get kids into the bath can be a real challenge. Gelli Baff can help to make bath time more fun in order to make sure those little stinkers (!) come out smelling better and have a brilliant time in the process.
The way it works is near magical – the product comes with two bags of powder, one is the Gelli powder which turns the water into a squishy jelly like substance, and the other is the dissolver which thins it back down again so it will drain away.
To get the product to run, you need to run a shallow bath – too much water will dilute the powder too much, so it’s best to start small & add a bit more water until it gets to the desired consistency, and bear in mind it takes a minute to take full effect, so don’t top up the water immediately!
Once the jelly like substance has formed kids will take great pleasure in squidging about in it. They really did love the feel of it in our testing.
What they probably don’t realise is that they are getting a bit of a hidden chemistry lesson in disguise as well as a bath! By showing them how chemicals reactions can make a big change, a product which is all about fun also becomes educational in a fun and highly engaging way. 2 of the kids we tested with bagged up the jelly so they could keep some to show at school/show their friends. The other developmental benefit of Gelli Baff is that it helps kids develop their sense of touch/appreciation and differentiation of textures.
In terms of safety, the kids we tested with had no issues, the only point we noticed was that the instructions state kids should not stand up in the bath with Gelli Baff, and so obviously we had to put that safety rule to the test! And we have to agree, even older kids we tested up to 7 years of age struggle to stand upright/walk along the bath when the jelly has formed, so we’d advise against that.
The other practical point to note is that even with the dissolver, the water still retained some jelly (albeit far less), so we had to take the kids to shower off the jelly in a different bath. If you have a bath with an in built shower you will probably need to use that after!
The product comes in various colours. We tested pink, and it was a vibrant deep pink which added visual impact to the experience.
WHO’S IT FOR: Younger kids who like squidgy stuff and who perhaps need a little extra motivation to get in the bath!
THE TOY VERDICT: Kids love Gelli Baff, and it offers a simple but engaging educational/developmental value. It’s a one use only product, so play value is limited in one sense, but we struggled to get kids out of the bath while the jelly was in the bath! Highly recommended.
