In case you haven’t come across Pinypon before, it’s a cutesy mini-doll collectible range of toys featuring characters with interchangeable hair, heads, body & legs…sounds a little bizarre but it’s actually quite fun for younger kids, and so we’ve decided the best word to describe it is ‘quirky’!
The Pinypon boat is as quirky as they come, as well as being packed full of features and accessories (over 30 accessories). The kids we tested with took a minute to get how it worked/what it did when they opened the box, but once they got it they really liked it! The challenge on opening the box is that kids have to figure out what everything is and what it does, they also need to explore around to find some of the bits and pieces stowed away in the boat.
Among the cutesy accessories are a detachable mini-boat (slots in as the roof of the boat when not being used, through to a mini barbeque, flippers for swimming , sleeping quarters, slides and of course your very own Pinypon figure.
This is a fun toy to give to children, but also features more developmental play patterns then might at first be the case – firstly children have to utilise their cognitive skills to work out how the boat works and where things go/how they go together. Then they need to remove pieces and slot them in thus developing motor skills.
WHO’S IT FOR – the packaging states 4+, and we do see this being a good fit for 4-6 year olds who like cutesy play patterns.
THE TOY VERDICT – quirky, entertaining and offering good play value – kids and our professional testers liked the Pinypon Boat, it does everything a good toy playset should, just be aware that kids may want to collect more characters and playsets in the series!
